Celtic are moving quickly to appoint Wilfried Nancy as their new manager, with talks expected to accelerate over the weekend. The Columbus Crew boss has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Brendan Rodgers, who departed the club in late October.
Celtic formally informed the MLS side of their interest on Friday, and compensation is not expected to be an obstacle. Nancy is said to be keen on the move, and the club hopes to have him in charge before next weekend’s trip to St Mirren, ending Martin O’Neill’s brief caretaker spell.
Initially seen as an outsider, the French coach now fits Celtic’s preferred profile — a progressive, adaptable manager who can work within the club’s structure and transfer model. Nancy previously led Montreal before guiding Columbus Crew to a seventh-place finish in the MLS Eastern Conference this season.
Other candidates, including Kieran McKenna, Robbie Keane, and Kjetil Knutsen, were considered, but Celtic’s head of football operations, Paul Tisdale, has identified Nancy as his top choice.
