Patrick Bamford has signed for Sheffield United, just seven months after leading abusive chants about the club’s manager Chris Wilder during Leeds United’s promotion celebrations.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds by mutual consent in August, has agreed a short-term deal with the Championship strugglers until January.
Bamford’s move comes despite past tension with Wilder, who once called him a “muppet” during their teams’ 2018–19 promotion battles. However, the two later reconciled after Bamford personally phoned Wilder to apologise for the chant that went viral in April.
Wilder said afterward he had “no issue” with the striker and appreciated the apology. With Sheffield United the lowest scorers in the Championship, Bamford’s arrival is seen as a much-needed boost to their attack as he looks to revive his career after several injury-hit seasons.
